Sudden collapse of vapour-filled cavities

This phenomenon can be understood as the sudden and violent collapse of vapour space in the event of cavitation (implosion). This implosion may result in an erosion-type material destruction. The sudden collapse of vapour-filled cavities occurs, e. g. in the event of compression waves and surge pressures (see Velocity of sound) in fluids with a high vapour content.
