Enhancing access to clean water in Pekanbaru

The synergy between the government, private sector, and digital technology brings innovative solutions to water supply. Discover how modern technology helps sustain access to clean water in Pekanbaru!

A synergy between government, private sector, and advanced technology

As the demand for high-quality drinking water continues to escalate, efficient management of water infrastructure has become a critical priority. To address this need and expand the coverage of piped water services, the Pekanbaru City Government has partnered with Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and private companies through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework. A flagship initiative under this collaboration is the Pekanbaru City Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) Development Project, designed to deliver clean water with a capacity of 750 liters per second.

The tender for the project was awarded to PT. PP Infrastruktur, holding an 85% stake, and PT. Memiontec Indonesia, with a 15% stake. Together, they established PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tirta Madani (PT. PPTM) on December 14, 2020, as the implementing agency for this PPP project. The partnership spans a 25-year term, concluding in September 2047. PT. PPTM is tasked with constructing and rehabilitating a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) with a capacity of up to 750 liters per second, producing bulk water that adheres to the standards of the Ministry of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010, and distributing water through 42 kilometers of main pipelines and 122 kilometers of distribution networks. This initiative underscores a steadfast commitment to improving access to piped drinking water for Pekanbaru residents.

To ensure operational excellence, the project incorporates KSB Guard, an advanced monitoring technology. This digital solution is capable of detecting changes in bearing temperature and pump vibrations in real-time. Even during intermittent pump operation, KSB Guard consistently provides critical operational data accessible through the KSB Cloud. This information enables PT. PPTM to develop more effective maintenance strategies, reduce the risk of disruptions, and enhance operational efficiency. One of the key pumps monitored using KSB Guard is the Omega V 200-520 B GC1 G M, designed to deliver water at a capacity of 150 liters per second with a discharge head of up to 70 meters. Operating at a speed of 2998 RPM and powered by a 146.02 kW motor, this pump ensures high reliability to support the production of clean water.

Within the first two months of its implementation, KSB Guard received highly positive feedback from PT. PPTM. Based on these outcomes, PT. PPTM plans to expand the adoption of this technology by installing six additional KSB Guard units at their facilities. This decision reflects their confidence in the tangible benefits offered by KSB Guard in improving efficiency and operational reliability.

The successful deployment of KSB Guard at PT. PPTM exemplifies how modern technology can serve as a strategic partner in advancing sustainability within the drinking water sector. With its advanced monitoring capabilities, seamless integration, and robust reliability, KSB Guard is set to continue making significant contributions to the operational efficiency and sustainability of the Pekanbaru City SPAM project. This initiative is a compelling example of how collaboration between government entities, the private sector, and digital technology can effectively address the growing demand for clean water while promoting sustainable resource management.
