Saving costs with high-efficiency pumps by KSB
Without an efficient heating pump, the house and flat remain cold in autumn and winter. It is estimated that more than 30 million pumps keep the heating in German households running. However, outdated heating pumps often circulate too much water. In a single-family house, an outdated heating pump consumes about one-fifth of the total energy. However, many homeowners do not include their heating pump in the basement in their calculations when they think about heating and electricity costs.
Compared to an old heating pump, a modern high-efficiency pump from KSB works extremely effectively and thus significantly reduces energy consumption. Our state-of-the-art circulators are available in the most diverse of variants. Naturally, all our high-efficiency pumps meet the requirements of the ErP Directive regulations applicable since 2015.
Benefits of a heating pump by KSB
- Ease of use: Installation, commissioning and operation are simple and intuitive.
- Maximum energy efficiency with high-efficiency drive and optimised hydraulic system, meeting the ErP requirements
- Large product diversity: A wide range of closely-spaced sizes covers applications from single-family houses through to large objects with process control systems.

Heating pumps. Short explained.
This is how circulators work
The heating pump (also called circulator) in a heating system is a centrifugal pump that circulates the heat transfer fluid through the piping in a closed circuit. It transports the hot heat transfer fluid to the heaters and returns it in cooled condition back to the boiler, where it is heated up again.
An old circulator consumes large amounts of power as it rarely adjusts to the actual heat demand and therefore always runs at maximum capacity.
What type of circulator have you got?
Fixed speed circulators do not allow for any settings to be adjusted. They always run at maximum capacity and therefore consume a lot of power.
Multi-level fixed speed circulators allow switching between three speed levels. At level 3 the power consumption markedly exceeds that of the lower levels. As this type of pump can only be either turned of or off, replacing it with a high-efficiency pump is recommended.
Circulators with an electronic control system adjust their operation automatically, depending on whether the radiator thermostats are open or closed. The pumps primarily run in the part load range and reduce power costs.
The high-efficiency pump is fitted with an optimised motor with variable speed system that adjusts the output to the actual demand. It is especially matched to the heating system it is used in and supports hydraulic balancing.
