Supplying the backup pumps for the boiler feedwater applications at Cikarang Listrindo in Indonesia was a challenging task. Meant to take over for the main pumps during maintenance, these backup pumps are crucial to ensure the uninterrupted operation of our customer’s power plant.
Among the major challenges of this project were that the new pumps needed to fit into the existing mounting points and be able to work in unison with the existing pumps on site. Furthermore, the supplied backup pumps also needed to match the required operating conditions of the existing pumps.

The project
Backing up the main pump of one of Indonesias TOP power plants
Cikarang Listrindo is one of the major independent power plants in Indonesia, as well as one of KSB’s biggest customers, with several KSB products installed on site. Recently, KSB successfully signed a contract with PT. Cikarang Listrindo Tbk. for a significant overhaul of six units of HGC 5/11 boiler feedwater pumps, along with the spare parts for those pumps for the next three years.

Cikarang Listrindo is one of the most important energy suppliers in Indonesia. Established in 1993, it is the longest-operating independent power producer in the country.
The company generates an installed capacity of 1,144 MW in a conventional power plant and 12.5 MWp in a solar power plant, supplying electricity to both PLN (the state electricity company) and one of the largest and most developed industrial areas in Indonesia.
Cikarang Listrindo also supports the government in promoting renewable energy in Indonesia, particularly focusing on solar energy and biomass projects.
Since December 2019, Cikarang Listrindo has been using biofuel at the Babelan power plant to reduce coal usage. In 2021, the company installed a biomass processing system in the same coal-fired power plant to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The challenge
Matching the pumps at Cikarang Listrindo
Cikarang Listrindo supplies one of the country's largest and most influential industrial areas, so the systems are constantly running at full capacity. Therefore, it is impossible to halt the functioning of the plant for maintenance work.
For this project, the main pump required a general overhaul. A new HGC 5/11 pump served as a backup.
To ensure the high-pressure centrifugal pump could take over, the pump bracket had to be fitted with the existing main pump base frame and work with the same characteristic curve as the main pump.
