Palazzo Grassi – where culture meets sustainability
An old building kitted out with modern technology: KSB pumps and valves for heating, air-conditioning, water and sanitation systems help to save 30 % of energy in the Palazzo Grassi.
The project: Palazzo Grassi, an 18th century Venetian palace
The Palazzo Grassi is one of Venice’s most famous buildings. The three-storey structure from the 18th century stands directly on the Canal Grande. It was created by architect Giorgio Massari in the transitional style between Late Baroque and Classicism. He was commissioned by the Grassi family.
Today, the impressive building houses a renowned museum of contemporary art. The exhibits belong to the French entrepreneur and collector François-Henri Pinault who bought the building in 2006.
An energy analysis revealed that the palace’s energy consumption was enormous, making energy optimisation measures absolutely necessary. The task was to install state-of-the art equipment for heating, air-conditioning, water and sanitation systems. Technology designed to meet the demands of maximum energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.
The challenge: Cutting-edge technology in an old building
The challenge was to significantly reduce energy consumption in the Palazzo Grassi – and thus save costs – by using efficient and environmentally friendly pumps and valves.
The solution: A complete range of technology and expertise covering all systems
To meet the specific requirements of the Palazzo Grassi, KSB supplied a complete range of pumps and valves for heating, air-conditioning, water and sanitation systems. This comprised 131 shut-off and control valves, 24 swing check valves, 29 strainers, 45 expansion joints and 5 Etabloc pumps.
The main criterion was the high efficiency of the pumps driven by KSB SuPremE IE5* motors. The magnet-less pump drive impresses with high efficiency in all load ranges, enabling maximum energy savings.
All pumps were also fitted with a PumpDrive variable speed system and PumpMeter pump monitoring unit. In addition to installing these new pumps, KSB carried out maintenance of some of the older pumps.
The project took eight months from its start in July 2015, with the products being delivered in November 2015 and final completion in February 2016.

Jednostupanjska blok-pumpa sa spiralnim kućištem, s radnim učincima prema standardu EN 733, sa zamjenjivom čahurom vratila i raspornim prstenima te sustavom za regulaciju broja okretaja montiranim na motor. S sinkronim reluktantnim motorom KSB SuPremE bez magneta (iznimka: veličine motora 0,55 kW / 0,75 kW s 1500 min⁻¹ opremljene su trajnim magnetima), s klasom učinkovitosti IE4/IE5 prema IEC TS 60034-30-2:2016, za rad na sustavu za regulaciju broja okretaja KSB PumpDrive 2 ili KSB PumpDrive 2 Eco, bez senzora položaja rotora. Pričvrsne točke prema EN 50347, dimenzije kućišta prema DIN V 42673 (07-2011). Dostupna je ATEX izvedba.
KSB SuPremE
Sinkroni reluktantni motor bez magneta i senzora, kompatibilan s IEC (iznimka: veličine motora 0,55 kW / 0,75 kW s 1500 min⁻¹ opremljene su permanentnim magnetima), sa stupnjem radnog učinka IE4/IE5 (Super/Ultra Premium Efficiency) prema IEC TS 60034-30-2:2016, za rad na sustavu za regulaciju broja okretaja KSB PumpDrive 2, PumpDrive 2 Eco ili PumpDrive R. Prikladan za priključivanje na trofaznu opskrbu energijom 380-480 V (putem jedinice PumpDrive). Pričvrsne točke usklađene su sa standardom EN 50347, zahvaljujući čemu je osigurana upotreba s kompatibilnim IEC standardnim motorima i mogućnost potpune zamjene IE2 ili IE3 asinkronim standardnim motorima. Dimenzije kućišta nalaze se unutar granica za IE2/IE3 predloženih u standardu DIN V 42673 (07-2011). Za regulaciju motora nije potreban davač položaja motora. Stupanj učinkovitosti motora je i pri 25 % nazivne snage na kvadratnoj karakterističnoj krivulji okretnog momenta / broja okretaja > 95 % od stupnja nazivne učinkovitosti. Motor ne sadrži magnet i pri njegovoj izradi nisu upotrijebljeni tzv. „rijetki metali“. To znači da je pogon proizveden na održiv i ekološki prihvatljiv način.
PumpDrive R (KSB202)
Frekventni pretvarač sa samostalnim hlađenjem u modularnoj izvedbi koji omogućuje bezstupanjsko mijenjanje brojeva okretaja asinkronih i sinkronih reluktantnih motora putem analognih standardnih signala, sabirnice polja ili upravljačke jedinice. Zahvaljujući samostalnom hlađenju jedinice PumpDrive R moguća je montaža na zid ili u rasklopni ormar. Regulacija do 6 pumpi bez dodatnih regulatora. PumpDrive R povećava raspon radnog učinka u odnosu na PumpDrive 2 do dimenzionirane snage od 250 kW (standardno) / 1400 kW (na upit).

Zaporni ventil usklađen sa standardima DIN/EN s prirubnicama, kratke konstrukcije prema EN 558/14, izvedba s kosim dosjedom i ravnim gornjim dijelom, jednodijelno kućište, prigušni konus s EPDM oblogom, meka prolazna brtva i nepovratna brtva, indikator položaja, mehanizam za podešavanje, ograničenje hoda, izolacijski poklopac s blokadom rosišta, bez održavanja, s mogućnošću potpune izolacije.
